Freiburg in Brisgau

Popular, idyllic hiking trail around Freiburg's local mountain. The route begins in the heart of the city with a steep but rewarding ascent from the Schwabentorsteg. The route leads past Freiburg Castle Gardens and the vineyard to the Schlossberg. From here, the 35-metre-high Schlossberg tower can be climbed via the 251 steps of the Salzbüchletreppe. Fantastic views over the city are guaranteed.

It takes 1 - 2 hours to complete the 4 km route, depending on your walking speed.

Anyone strolling through the city of Fribourg will sooner or later come across a “Bächle”. The shallow, cobbled, small channels have been flowing through countless alleyways in the old town since the Middle Ages. Originally, people were supplied with drinking, service and fire-fighting water in this way. Today, the water is used more for cooling off and splashing around. You can see small, colorful sailing boats dancing on the waves everywhere.

The little wooden boats are affectionately known here as “Bächleboot”. They are handmade in the REWE workshops, which create a working environment for people with disabilities in the region. You can buy the little boats anywhere in the city center for little money. What a lovely, sustainable souvenir of a “Feel Good” short trip.
