Dijon owes its fabulous heritage to the powerful Dukes of Burgundy, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the historic centre, which is largely pedestrianised, admire the half-timbered houses, the magnificent palaces and the impressive Palais des Ducs, home to the famous Musée des Beaux-Arts. And for a superb panoramic view of the city, climb to the top of the Philippe-le-Bon tower.

Fine mustard, marbled ham, oeufs en meurette, not forgetting the famous gougères, gingerbread and beef bourguignon: Dijon's specialities are sure to delight the palate. And, of course, all accompanied by the famous Burgundy wines. Gourmets and food-lovers won't want to miss the covered market with its superb covered market hall, or the recently opened Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin.

The owl is Dijon's mascot of sorts. All you have to do is follow its effigy along the cobblestones and you're off on a fun, hour-long stroll. The route takes in 22 of the city's most emblematic landmarks, including the famous owl on the north façade of Notre-Dame church. With your right hand over your heart, stroke it with your left and make a wish. Because the owl brings good luck!
