Frankfurt is a major international financial centre and a major trade fair and service centre. It is home to the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, among others. Major trade fairs such as the Frankfurt Book Fair and the International Motor Show are also held here.
-
One of Frankfurt's special features is its skyline, whose skyscrapers are among the tallest buildings in Europe. Some people refer to Frankfurt as "Mainhattan".
-
The new Old Town has evolved from an award-winning architectural project into the heart of the city and should not be missed on any visit. Just like the Palmengarten, which has been a real favourite for over 150 years, or the Kleinmarkthalle, where you can buy regional products and meet up for a glass of wine after work. The districts around the city centre are full of such favourite places.
-
Almost 40 museums form the "Museumsufer", which stretches from the River Main across the entire city and offers a unique variety of themes and architecture. This cultural wealth extends across the entire region and includes the Mathildenhöhe Art Nouveau Centre and UNESCO World Heritage Site in Darmstadt, the Opelvillas with contemporary art in Gross-Gerau and the new Christian Schad Museum in Aschaffenburg. Summer events and annual highlights such as the German Jazz Festival round off the cultural programme.
-
While the streets away from the tower blocks are characterised by beautiful old buildings, tall rows of trees and pretty half-timbered houses, the skyline glistens in the city centre. The view from one of the many roof terraces combines both to create the unique Frankfurt city feeling and makes an aperitif or a good meal an unforgettable moment.

It's well worth staying longer, so you'll have plenty of time for cycling tours along the Main cycle path to Hanau and Aschaffenburg castles or to the vineyards of the Main-Taunus district. In the Wetterau, you'll find traces of the Celts, and if you want to get active on the water, the bathing lakes in the Offenbach district are just the thing.
