Company history

In the 1970s, an increasing number of people sought to spend their first beach holidays by the sea, generating a demand in the travel industry for a rail tour operator to curate train + hotel packages. Over time, railtour shifted its focus from beach holidays to city breaks by train for both individual and group travellers in Switzerland and Europe. In 2010, the company expanded its services by merging with the France specialist, Frantour.

Having relocated several times in Bern, railtour now operates from Kornhausplatz right in the heart of the Swiss capital. The company has been adeptly led by three directors through numerous challenges, including strikes, wars, natural disasters and more recently the coronavirus pandemic. Since 2023, Tina Neuenschwander is Managing Director.

Now and more than ever, railtour is aligned with the changing travel landscape. As sustainable travel by train becomes increasingly popular, railtour is committed to actively promoting eco-friendly travel practices.
