How about cycling from Montpellier to the sea? Less than 15 km separate the city centre from the beaches of Palavas-les-Flots and Carnon, 8 km of which is a cycle path along the river Lez and through the Etang du Méjean, populated by flamingos. Don't feel like pedalling? You can easily reach Palavas-les-Flots, Carnon, La Grande Motte or Le Grau du Roi by bus. There is even a beach bus!

When it comes to architecture, Montpellier is always one step ahead. It used to be the Antigone neighbourhood from the 1980s, built by Ricardo Bofill - now there is Port Marianne. The star architects have given free rein to their talent in this new neighbourhood. Take a look at the town hall, a giant blue cube by Jean Nouvel, the famous White Tree by Sou Fujimoto, the Cloud designed by Philippe Starck... Montpellier will surprise you again and again!

Montpellier focusses on car-free tourism. Cyclists have over 230 kilometres of cycle paths at their disposal. There are several tram lines, one of which is due to run to the Montpellier Sud de France TGV station by 2025. The TGV takes less than 2 hours from Lyon and arrives either at Sud de France station on the outskirts of the city (shuttle bus to the centre) or at Saint-Roch station in the city.
