Insider Tips

Cape Town - Extension

4-5-day pre or post programme

You will stay in a centrally located comfort hotel and experience breathtaking views of the famous Cape of Good Hope with your German-speaking tour guide. In the picturesque wine country, you will enjoy exquisite wines and, weather permitting, have the opportunity to visit the Table Mountain plateau, over 1,000 metres high and one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.

Extension Namibia

Extend your stay in Namibia for four days at a rural lodge near Windhoek. Enjoy the vastness of the landscape, combine safari with wellness and observe antelopes, zebras and, with a bit of luck, even cats of prey. Relax in between at the pool or with a wellness treatment.

Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta

6-day pre-trip

Experience Botswana's unspoilt nature and fascinating wildlife in its purest form. Over a third of the country is protected, including the Chobe National Park and the unique Okavango Delta - a watery landscape of canals, swamps, lagoons and palm-covered islands in the middle of the Kalahari semi-desert. This natural paradise, home to numerous animals, is one of Africa's most exclusive safari destinations and was recognised as the 1,000th UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. You reach your comfortable camp by charter flight and explore the delta with experienced rangers by mokoro canoe, in an open jeep or even on foot if you wish.

Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls

4-day pre-trip

Just a few kilometres from the Victoria Falls lies the Chobe National Park, one of Africa's greatest animal paradises. With the highest density of elephants on the continent, impressive encounters with the gentle giants are almost guaranteed. You will stay in a stylish safari lodge on the edge of the park and discover the fascinating animal world on exciting game drives in open off-road vehicles or on boat trips on the Chobe River. In addition to elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and crocodiles, the rich birdlife will delight you with its colourful splendour and characteristic calls.

African Explorer

Your hotel on wheels, the renovated African Explorer train, has sleeper compartments in two compartment categories with double or single beds.

All compartments are equipped with individually adjustable air conditioning, power sockets (220/230 V) with adapter, a small safe, towels, hairdryer, a small bottle of water per day of travel and small toiletries. The beds are made up daily by the staff. The windows in all sleeping compartments can be opened (blinds and sun blinds are available). Larger items of luggage can be stowed under the beds and on the upper luggage racks. The rolling veranda of the African Explorer is the open viewing platform of the cozy lounge car; a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike - the unobstructed view of the wilderness not only facilitates sightings of rare animals, it also makes photography particularly attractive. There are no distracting reflections or streaks, as is often the case with pictures taken through windows, but you are always in direct contact with nature. This makes your trip a real safari on rails.

Dining car

Delicious African and European specialties are served in the two air-conditioned restaurant cars. Always a special highlight: the dinners, which are served as 3-course meals in one sitting.
In the bar car, you can relax with a cool Windhoek Lager or one of the famous South African red wines, listen to on-board lectures by your tour guide, devote yourself to your on-board reading and have stimulating conversations with your fellow passengers.
