The renaissance of a city.
-
The history of the town is closely linked to the history of its wines. The first wine cultivation dates back to ancient times. The wine trade and its favourable location as a seaport gave Bordeaux a centuries-long flourishing period. The city's architecture reflects the prestige of its wines, which are deeply rooted in its cultural heritage. If you are a wine lover, come to Bordeaux! Visit the unique Cité du Vin, taste fine wines in cellars and bars, take a look at the wine regions outside the city. What do you think about a trip to Saint-Emilion? This famous medieval town in the heart of the vineyards of the same name is only 40 minutes away by train and, like Bordeaux, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The historic city centre of Bordeaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, must be explored on foot: the Place de la Bourse, with the highest water level in the world, opposite the most beautiful bridge in Bordeaux (Pont de pierre), the Porte Cailhau, part of the former city walls, the prestigious Grand Théâtre, the 7-tonne bell (Great Cloche) in the former bell tower of the City Hall, the picturesque Saint-Pierre district, the Saint-André Cathedral, where Louis VII was buried, the Saint-Pierre church, the Saint-André church and the Saint-André church. Eleonore of Aquitaine married, the neighbouring bell tower (Tour Pey-Berland) with the highest viewpoint in the city. You can go shopping in the long pedestrian street Rue Sainte-Catherine or in the "golden triangle" with delicatessens and luxury boutiques. Another way to discover Bordeaux is by bike: Bordeaux and its surroundings have more than 200 km of cycle paths!
