Colmar

Incredibly charming

Colmar is a pretty little town whose cobbled streets and half-timbered houses decorated with gables are well preserved. These colorful half-timbered houses are reflected in the canals of the Little Venice, which you can admire on a boat trip.

Colmar is the capital of Alsatian wines and offers gourmets, foodies and beer lovers everything their hearts desire.

Unterlinden Museum

Immerse yourself in the heart of art history at the Unterlinden Museum, which is part of Colmar's unmissable cultural heritage. Since 2015, the historic monastery from the 13th century has been combined with a contemporary, modern new building by architects Herzog & de Meuron behind the old municipal baths.

Stroll through an exhibition area of 8000m2 and admire exceptional collections of archaeology, old and new art and applied arts. The highlight is the Isenheim Altarpiece: this masterpiece has recently been fully restored and displays its incredible splendour of colour in new splendour.

Colmar celebrates spring

Every year at the end of March, Colmar celebrates spring in a glamorous and cosy way. Two markets welcome you in the spring sunshine on two emblematic squares: Place des Dominicains and Place de l'Ancienne Douane. Here you will find passionate exhibitors who have been carefully selected for their products.

In the Koifhus, four exhibitions on different themes (eggs, textiles, ceramics and glass/wood) showcase the most beautiful creations of regional artists and craftspeople. The atmosphere is created by the numerous free outdoor concerts.

Capital of Alsace wines

As the centre of a flourishing wine-growing industry, Colmar quickly established itself as the capital of Alsace wine. This status is reflected in its cultural heritage: numerous architectural buildings make reference to vines and wines.

The town's central geographical location makes it an excellent starting point for exploring the Alsace Wine Route. Turckheim is just a stone's throw away. In hidden alleyways in the heart of Colmar, two winegrowing families have been producing their fine wines here for generations.
