Die Cité du Train – SNCF heritage site

The Cité du Train is the largest railway museum in Europe and documents the 200-year history of the railway in France. The collections are exhibited in a fun and educational way in three areas, including a show circuit where you can meet the first tourists of the 1930s and the famous Hercule Poirot on the Orient Express.

The museum tells the saga of the train from its beginnings to the famous TGV speed record. Visitors can stroll among giant steam locomotives, take a ride under railway furniture to discover its mechanics and travel on a Paris Metro train.

The Christmas market and its fabrics

As everywhere in Alsace, Advent and the Christmas markets are a special time in Mulhouse. What makes them so special? The Christmas fabric, which is redesigned every year, is a tribute to the textile tradition. It adorns the town hall, the stalls at the Christmas market and the shop windows in the old town centre. It bears the "Alsace terre textile" label and is also available in the Boutique aux Etoffes.

The inhabitants of Mulhouse love to collect fabrics and it is a tradition to decorate the Christmas tables with them. Visitors are also enthusiastic about this tradition. So don't miss out on taking your own fabric home with you!
