Pure diversity - that is what the destination FrankfurtRhineMain is all about. Vineyards and orchards, modern art and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, skyline and half-timbered houses, city district tours and cycle routes are all close together here. Enjoy a region that moves, surprises and inspires, simply full of WOW moments.
Fancy a little stroll?
Then let’s go! At the heart of it all is the small, cosmopolitan metropolis of Frankfurt. To the south lies the science city of Darmstadt, while to the east are Offenbach, Hanau, and Aschaffenburg. In the Offenbach district, the half-timbered towns of Seligenstadt and Dreieichenhain are truly enchanting. The Gross-Gerau district borders both the Rhine and the Main rivers, and the Main-Taunus district offers a taste of low mountain charm. And to the north? That’s where you’ll find the Wetterau region, home to spa towns like Bad Vilbel, Bad Salzhausen, and Bad Nauheim.
Simply Frankfurt
Dynamic yet steeped in tradition, Frankfurt brings both together in a unique urban experience. Right in the city centre, you walk across the oldest settlement remains at the franconofurd imperial palace and through the reconstructed old town. In the Höchst district, you will find a genuine old town with listed half-timbered houses and a Renaissance castle. In the Nordend and Westend districts, Wilhelminian façades shape the cityscape. In between, iconic buildings from the 1920s recall the New Frankfurt era. And the spectacular skyline naturally builds the bridge to the modern age.
Vertical Experience
In the 1920s, Frankfurt's first high-rise building was a sensation. It was 33 meters high. Today, Germany's tallest building, the Commerzbank Tower, scratches the clouds at 259 meters and the skyline continues to grow: once the new «Four» is completed, Frankfurt will have over 40 buildings with a height of more than 100 meters.
Skyscraper feeling up close? Experience it on the city's many rooftop terraces. For example, with a sundowner in the NFT Skybar, the highest rooftop bar in Germany with a 360-degree view, or in Citybeach, which transforms into CityXmas in the winter. You can wake up with a skyline view in many Frankfurt hotels.
Lace up your hiking boots
The Aschaffenburg circular hiking trail offers an exciting mix of city and nature. Over almost 70 kilometres, it leads along the Main, through forests and meadows, villages and Aschaffenburg itself. You can see wild horses and Heck cattle, and enjoy sweeping views of the Spessart and even the Frankfurt skyline. Along the route, you will find monuments to industrial history, cultural landmarks such as chapels, and Schönbusch Park, an 18th-century landscape garden. Aschaffenburg main station is both the start and finish. Along the way, there are also other train stations and bus stops, so you can join or leave the route at different points.
Art hotspot
With its Museum Embankment, home to 39 very different institutions, Frankfurt has long established itself as an important international museum destination. This diversity is reflected in the cultural scene across the entire region, for example in Offenbach. Book art, poster art and typography, illustration and design: the Klingspor Museum is a tribute to the love of beautifully designed books. A historic highlight of the region is the Celtic World at Glauberg. Celts lived at Glauberg 2,400 years ago. The award-winning museum at the site of the life-size Celtic prince brings their story vividly to life.
