Cycling highlight: 6 Lakes Loop

Where the lake is a little warmer and holidays feel a little more carefree, there is always room for taking it easy. With a cycling network of 1,500 km in total, Southern Carinthia gets every cycling holiday rolling in the most enjoyable way. The legendary «6 Lakes Loop» covers 54 km and 760 metres of elevation. It connects all the lakes in the region: Lake Klopein, Kleinsee, Turnersee, Gösselsdorfer See, Sonnegger See and Pirkdorfer See. Do not forget your swimsuit. A refreshing dip in the turquoise-blue water will revive tired legs.

Mythical place of power with a healing spring

Excavations on the Hemmaberg reveal a settlement history that reaches far back into the past. Yet the place reveals its special mysticism on the north face below the summit, where the Rosalia Grotto, chapel and spring are located. Saint Rosalia, protector against the plague, has been venerated here since the Baroque period. Many stories and legends surround the grotto as a place of power, reflection and peace. The freely accessible spring is still said to have healing powers similar to those of Lourdes, especially for the eyes.

The Troegener Gorge captivates visitors with its clear water, rock formations and unspoilt nature – a refreshing destination in southern Carinthia.
Trögen Gorge

In this wildly romantic gorge landscape, water has cut deep into the rock, creating an impressive natural monument. Trögen Gorge is a paradise for hikers and anglers. This gorge, around 3.5 km long, can be explored on level ground on foot or by bike. An insider tip for hot summer days. Thanks to its unique character, it has been declared a nature reserve and provides a habitat for rare plants and animals. Since 1997, the Potokgraben has been home to a natural forest reserve with black pines and manna ashes.

Hadn: Southern Carinthia’s superfood

Buckwheat is known in Southern Carinthia as «Had’n». The name probably comes from the pagan Tartars, who are believed to have brought it from Asia to Carinthia. Pink-flowering Had’n is not a grain, but a gluten-free plant. It is a firm fixture in Southern Carinthia’s regional cuisine. From simple country inns to fine dining restaurants, Had’n is on the menu. The small, tranquil village of Neuhaus in particular has dedicated itself to this plant. It is the centre of the «Jauntaler Had’n» culinary region.
