Barcelona is synonymous with Mediterranean lifestyle, impressive architecture, and culinary diversity. On our study trip, we had the opportunity to experience the Catalan metropolis in depth, and even the journey there was a real highlight. Because when you travel with Twiliner, your vacation doesn't start when you reach your destination, but already on the way there.

Overnight to Barcelona: Travel reimagined

Instead of airport stress and transfers, we traveled directly from Bern to Barcelona overnight on the Twiliner. The modern reclining seats can be adjusted to an almost two-meter-long, flat sleeping position at the touch of a button, complete with pillows and duvets. This makes the night journey a comfortable rest.

Wi-Fi, drinks, a snack bar, and sanitary facilities ensure that nothing is missing during the journey. The next morning, we arrive in Barcelona rested and relaxed—a perfect start to our city break. Sustainable, convenient, and surprisingly pleasant, the Twiliner shows how comfortable long-distance travel by road can be.

Urban & central

Upon arrival, Barcelona welcomes us with sunshine and urban flair. Our home for the next few days: the Hotel Jazz, centrally located near Plaça de Catalunya. Spacious rooms, a balanced breakfast buffet and a stylish rooftop bar with pool make the hotel the ideal base for exploring the city.

Culture meets pleasure: trip to Montserrat

One of the highlights of the trip takes us out of the city to the impressive Montserrat mountains. Nestled in a spectacular rocky landscape, the Benedictine monastery combines spirituality and nature in an impressive way. The excursion is rounded off with a tasting of regional wines and tapas in the Oller del Mas wine cellar, offering a delightful insight into the Catalan way of life.

Gaudí up close: Park Güell

Back in Barcelona, a visit to one of the city's most famous sons is a must. In Park Güell, architecture and nature merge to create a colourful work of art. The curved mosaic bench, the hypostyle hall and the famous dragon staircase are among the most impressive sights in Barcelona and offer fantastic views over the city.

Barcelona from the air: Montjuïc cable car

The cable car ride up Montjuïc offers a change of perspective. High above the city, it opens up a sweeping view of the harbour, the sea and the rooftops of Barcelona. Once at the top, the surroundings of Montjuïc Castle invite you to linger, while down at the valley station, bars and terraces beckon you to relax with an aperitif.

Christmas with a difference: Mediterranean festive season

Barcelona shows its charming side in December too. Christmas markets in front of the cathedral, at the Sagrada Familia and at the harbour create a festive atmosphere, without mulled wine but with sangria instead. Fairy lights, palm trees and mild temperatures give the city a very special southern Christmas atmosphere.

A neighbourhood full of contrasts

The historic Barri Gòtic, the alternative Raval or the maritime La Barceloneta – each neighbourhood tells its own story. Strolling through the streets, Barcelona reveals itself to be lively, creative and full of contrasts between tradition and modernity.

Tapas, brunch & vino: Catalan-style indulgence

When it comes to cuisine, Barcelona has something to suit every taste. Creative brunch spots, classic tapas bars, fresh fish specialities and stylish wine bars invite you to indulge. We particularly recommend establishments that focus on regional products and reflect the authentic flavours of Catalonia.
