Sylt is worth a trip at any time of year. The island doesn’t just enchant visitors in summer; it reveals its very special charm throughout all four seasons. When the North Sea turns rougher in winter, the wind clears the mind, and long beach walks open up new perspectives, Sylt shows its quiet yet powerful side. Spring and autumn entice with fresh nature, crisp air, and plenty of space for pure enjoyment and slowing down.

Covering just 99 square kilometres, Sylt brings together an impressive variety: wide beaches, wandering dunes, blooming heathland, striking cliffs and the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage natural site. The island is both modern and deeply rooted in tradition – a place for those seeking relaxation, active travellers, food lovers and culture enthusiasts alike.

All year round, wellness hotels, cultural events and an outstanding culinary scene invite you to explore. More than 200 restaurants – ranging from relaxed beach venues to award‑winning fine‑dining establishments – make Sylt a culinary hotspot with a season of its own.
Sylt stands for mindful breaks, authentic experiences and the reassuring feeling of being in exactly the right place at exactly the right time – in summer as well as in winter.

Sylt is what you make of it!

Biikebrennen

The Biikebrennen, a centuries‑old North Frisian tradition, is celebrated every year on 21 February. Originally a pagan custom, the fire symbolised the driving out of winter and later served as a farewell ritual for whalers. Today, the Biikebrennen stands for community and cultural identity. With torchlight processions, bonfires and the traditional kale meal, winter is bid farewell.
