Paul Cézanne was born here, in Aix-en-Provence. In the historic centre, the nails marked with a ‘C’ guide you from the house where the painter was born to his final resting place in the Saint-Pierre cemetery. Admire his works at the Musée Granet, and see the real Mont Sainte-Victoire so often depicted. The family home at Jas de Bouffan and his studio at Les Lauves will be reopened in 2025 after restoration, to mark the ‘Cezanne 2025’ tribute.

The Sainte-Victoire mountain was the muse of Paul Cézanne, is recognised as a ‘Grand Site de France’ and is also one of the symbols of Provence. This 1,011 metre-high limestone massif is omnipresent in the landscape and offers wonderful walks along paths punctuated by Restanques, the Sainte-Victoire Priory and the Ermitage Saint-Ser. From Aix-en-Provence, you can get there by bus or - why not - hire a bike for a beautiful circular route suitable for all levels.

A stroll along the famous Cours Mirabeau immediately gives you a good idea of the fountains and mansions that make up the charm of Aix-en-Provence. Classic, Baroque and even Rococo in style, they all have the same beautiful ochre tones that are so characteristic of the city. Among the jewels of Aix-en-Provence, don't miss the Quatre-Dauphins fountain, the Hôtel de Caumont in the Mazarin district or the charming Place d'Albertas.

To awaken your taste buds, visit the daily weekly market on the town hall square with its colourful and fragrant fruit, vegetable and flower stalls under the plane trees. Would you like to bring back a speciality from Aix-en-Provence? The famous calisson is particularly suitable for this. This sweet made from almonds, candied melons and orange blossom is a concentrate of the flavours of Provence.
