The ÖBB Nightjet takes you comfortably overnight to numerous European metropolitan destinations. While you sleep, you travel in an environmentally friendly way from city centre to city centre. Various comfort categories – from seats and couchettes to private sleeper compartments – ensure a restful journey tailored to your needs.

Nightjet Travel Classes

The Nightjet offers a range of travel classes tailored to your individual needs.

Sleeper Car

  • Standard Sleeper: Standard compartments available for single, double, or triple occupancy. The compartments are equipped with a private washbasin. Each carriage also offers additional washing facilities with toilet and shower.
  • Sleeper Plus: Deluxe compartments available for single, double, or triple occupancy. The compartments feature a private bathroom with washbasin, shower, and toilet. Shower gel and towels are provided. (Best available category, comparable to 1st class).
  • Included: Welcome drink, evening snack, welcome bag, made-up bed including blanket, sheets and pillow, towels and toiletries, à la carte breakfast, and wake-up service at your preferred time.

Couchette Car

Couchette compartments are equipped with 4 or 6 berths. The berths are arranged in two or three tiers. They are ideal for groups or families. Women-only compartments can also be booked.

  • Facilities: Blanket, sheet, and freshly made pillow on each berth; washing and toilet facilities in the carriage; compartments can be locked from the inside.
  • Included: “Viennese breakfast” (coffee/tea, 1 bread roll, butter, jam) and mineral water
  • Catering: Drinks and snacks from the menu are available for purchase from the onboard team and are served at your seat.
  • Comfort Compartments: For 4 people; these feature a new design and additional amenities such as more comfortable berths, a fold-away table, and free Wi-Fi.
  • Private Compartments: Up to 6 people (1–3 adults, max. 5 children up to 14 years old) can travel together at a fixed price in a private couchette compartment.

Seating Car

  • Seat: 6 seats (2nd class) in one compartment
  • Hygiene: Washing and toilet facilities in the carriage
  • Catering: Drinks and snacks from the menu are available for purchase from the onboard team in the couchette or sleeper car
  • Private Compartment: On many Nightjet trains, up to 3 people can book a private seating compartment at a fixed price (limited availability)

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Dogs are only permitted on the ÖBB Nightjet if you book an entire compartment. Dogs are not allowed in the Mini Cabin. You can purchase a dog ticket on board the train, by telephone or at the ticket counter. Assistance dogs travel free of charge and do not require a muzzle. Small and non-dangerous animals may travel free of charge in a closed container measuring up to 90 × 60 × 40 cm, provided it can be stowed in the luggage rack. On certain EuroNight trains, dogs are not permitted in couchette and sleeper carriages.
  • Yes. Bikes can be taken on selected Nightjet services between Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. You will need a separate ticket and a booking for this. Depending on the route, either three or six bicycle spaces are available.
  • Yes. For wheelchair users, an accessible multi-purpose compartment is available in the couchette carriage, depending on the service. It accommodates one person in a wheelchair, one accompanying person and one assistance dog. The compartment is for private use; à la carte breakfast is included.
