Cardiff’s special highlights include its six historic arcades dating from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. These covered passages are home to a wealth of independent shops, family‑run cafés, antique dealers, jewellers and charming boutiques. Unusual stores such as Hobo’s for vintage fashion, Rules of Play for board games, and Spillers Records, the world’s oldest record shop, make a visit particularly varied and memorable. Just a few minutes’ walk away, the modern shopping centre St David’s complements the historic arcades with a wide range of well‑known international brands.

Live Music & Nightlife

Cardiff boasts a vibrant live music and DJ scene spread across the entire city. Womanby Street near the castle is regarded as the musical heart of Cardiff: legendary venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach and The Moon are renowned for live gigs, club nights and their support of local bands. Beyond this, the city offers a wide range of bars, pubs and music venues – from intimate live stages to energetic DJ sets. A particular highlight are rooftop concerts at Jacob’s Roof Garden, offering views over the city centre. Cardiff’s nightlife is diverse, welcoming and deeply rooted in Welsh musical tradition – the perfect way to round off an evening in style.

The Taff Trail

Starting right in Cardiff Bay, the Taff Trail is one of the most beautiful routes in South Wales. This approximately 88‑kilometre cycling and walking path leads from the capital through green parks, along rivers and canals, and past historic castles to the charming market town of Brecon, on the northern edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. It is an ideal way to explore both Cardiff and the lush Welsh countryside on foot or by bike. Well developed and easy to follow, the trail is perfectly suited to relaxed day stages and combines urban flair with immersive natural scenery in a particularly gentle and enjoyable way.
