The cultivation of citrus fruits, especially lemons, has made Menton world-famous. The famous lemon festival, which takes place every year in February, is one of the major events on the Côte d'Azur with its yellow and orange decorated floats. The delicious lemon jam is at the top of the list of souvenirs to take home with you. Make your choice at the unmissable Les Halles market or during a visit to the artisanal factory in the heart of Vieux-Menton.

This sandy beach, located in the heart of Menton just a few steps from the harbour, is one of the town's greatest assets. People visit it for its idyllic setting at the foot of the colourful houses of Vieux-Menton, facing the Italian mountains. You can swim in crystal-clear water that is safe for families, as one part of the beach is public and the other private. And you can enjoy the promenade that has been laid out along the sand, with shops and restaurants.

The exceptionally mild climate and more than 300 days of sunshine a year attracted many botanists to Menton in the 19th century. Most of them were British, who imported many rare tropical species and left behind the remarkable gardens of the Palais de Carnolès, Maria Serena, Fontana Rosa and many others. Definitely worth a visit!

In Menton you almost have one foot in Italy, it's not far to the border! How about an aperitivo or a delicious pasta dish in Ventimiglia or San Remo? The train is a good way to get there. To the east, just 20 minutes away by train, the Principality of Monaco awaits you. Nice and other towns on the Côte d'Azur are also easily accessible by train.
