A true feel-good destination
Usedom delights with 42 kilometers of the finest beaches, a fresh Baltic Sea breeze and an extra portion of sunshine. Sunbathing, cycling, walking or simply taking a deep breath!
Apart from the beaches, the idyllic Achterland invites you to explore: gentle hills, peaceful moors, picturesque salt marshes and traditional fishing villages create a unique backdrop.
Culturally, Usedom impresses with stylish seaside resort architecture: in the Kaiserbäder Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin as well as in the seaside resort of Zinnowitz, magnificent villas bear witness to 200 years of seaside culture. And for those who want to go even further: the eastern part of the island belongs to Poland - the Polish Baltic coast begins with Swinemünde.
Usedom's seaside resort architecture
Impressive mansions are lined up along the seafront promenades of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin - a tribute to the elegant summer resorts of the 19th century. White façades, ornate wooden decorations, balconies with sea views and turrets add to the buildings' unmistakable charm. They reflect an era when high society traveled to the Baltic seaside resorts to relax in style. Today, the magnificent historic buildings have been lovingly restored and shape the image of the «Kaiserbäder».
Ahlbeck pier
The pier in Ahlbeck is the oldest surviving structure of its kind in Germany - and a real postcard motif. With its elegant turrets and striking bridge house, it has been extending over 280 meters into the Baltic Sea since 1898. Where once high society strolled, today tourists roam the historic wooden deck, enjoy the view of the sea or embark on excursion boats. Its charming seaside resort architecture and nostalgic atmosphere turn the Ahlbeck pier into a landmark of the island of Usedom - and a popular meeting place for romantics, photographers and sunset lovers.
Achterland of Usedom
Beyond the busy beaches, Usedom's Achterland reveals a completely different, peaceful side to the island. Gentle hills, idyllic lakes, dreamy villages and extensive fields characterize the landscape between the Achterwasser and the lagoon. Time seems to slow down here - perfect for cyclists, hikers and nature lovers who are looking for authenticity far away from the hustle and bustle. Thatched farmhouses, old manor houses and small harbors invite you to linger. Places like Benz, with its windmill, or the artists' village of Loddin are particularly charming. The Achterland is the essence of Usedom - unpretentious, authentic and full of quiet discoveries.
