Day 2 Taman Negara
After breakfast in your cabin, you can admire the lush green landscape as the train travels through some of Malaysia's wildest areas. After lunch on board, you will reach Merapoh and disembark to enjoy an extraordinary experience. Conservation is at the heart of the Eastern & Oriental Express philosophy, and the Malaysian tiger is the country's national animal. It is emblazoned on both the crest and emblem of our train. As part of our partnership with Save Wild Tigers, we invite you to discover the "tiger territory" of Taman Negara National Park and meet the local villagers and organizations working to protect this noble, critically endangered wild cat and its habitat. Taman Negara was formed 130 million years ago, making it one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. The dense jungle, wide rivers and lush mountains are home to wildlife ranging from water buffalo to macaques, tapirs and hornbills - a true paradise for explorers. Return to the train for a lively evening of local entertainment in the piano bar car and a delicious dinner.

Day 3 Penang
Enjoy breakfast and lunch on board before crossing to Penang Island. Here we have put together a selection of excursions that make the most of Malaysia's cultural melting pot. Art lovers can explore the old neighborhood of Georgetown with a guide, visiting temples, a contemporary studio and an opera and puppet house. Food lovers can embark on a discovery of Peranakan cuisine, buying specialties in spice and grocery stores before preparing delicious local dishes in a cooking class. And for those who prefer to go exploring, a tri-shaw, driver and map will be provided so you can meander through the charming streets of Georgetown and take in the sights at your leisure. Re-board the train at Butterworth. A convivial final evening on board with excellent cuisine and fabulous entertainment awaits you there.
